Mastery and the Power of a Team

I have been in Switzerland for more than 6 years, but it was only couple of months ago when I learnt about this incredible drumming group: Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel. Just watch their performance – to me it is mind-blowing.

What’s even more impressive – they are people who work in various day jobs – factory workers, bankers, civil servants etc. They practice nearly every day during their free time.

I am deeply impressed and fascinated with their performance – the group work, the precision, the attention to detail, humor and ah, so much more. And well, I like men in uniforms… If I find somewhere the picture of Michel in his army uniform – I will post it here 🙂

Isn´t It Shocking How Ladies See Themselves?

How Lady Sees HerselfWhen I watched this video couple of weeks ago – it shocked me. I thought about this insane female attitude – why we, ladies, are so tough with ourselves while meanwhile we can be so nice to other ladies?

When I shared this video with Michel – he too got thinking. He said that ladies must be spending so much energy on not only rejecting to see their own beauty, but also convincing themselves of being pure ugly. He said we must be wasting so much energy on this depressing activity. It´s no wonder if we struggle to feel great – often there is simply not enough energy left to feel great, so we settle for feeling good (or less than good).

Guess, how I came across this video?! A very strong and smart guy, my friend, shared it with me. Thank you for caring! This too got me thinking. And also – changing my attitude so I stop being unfair with myself and stop wasting my energy on this activity.

Watch this video yourself and see what thoughts and actions it inspires in you…

Initiative and Creative: Story of Recycled Music

Recycled Music

This picture was taken last year during a walk in ZĂźrich. Their music was good (we bought 2 CDs). However, today´s story is about music made out of trash. What a music! What a difference in the lives of many people…

This inspiring movie from Paraguay is a great confirmation of this attitude – it is not our access to resources that matters, but our RESOURCEFULNESS. It is also a story of what people can accomplish when they are willing to have a positive impact on the lives of others and refuse to be stopped by poverty or lack of power.

I still find it difficult to believe that they change lives by using trash…

I want to remember to watch this movie next time when I face some limiting situation and feel tempted to think that I don´t have something that I need so I could go ahead. This inspiring story should serve me as a great reminder that despite facing “dire circumstances, if a person has initiative and is creative, then even trash can change someone´s life and the lives of others”.

When Obstacles Become the Inspiration for the Life Beyond Limits

Living Beyond Limits

Laura sprinting down the mountain on the 1st of January – beautiful winter day when snow was covered with a crust. She said she felt like she was flying and free (I guess – free from the fear of crushing…)

This is a powerful story of what difference it makes when we ACCEPT THE REALITY, but NOT THE LIMITATIONS. It is a living example of a REAL person LIVING BEYOND LIMITS and drawing INSPIRATION FROM OBSTACLES in her life. It is a truly inspiring story that provokes action. (The type of story that is highly appreciated here, at our place)

The Impact of Movies to Real Man and Real Lady.

What we learn from movies

Do you know what is Bechdel test? We didn´t. And we are happy we got to know what it is that this test measures. If you are a person who watches movies (even if it is just one movie a year) – we suggest that you too learn about Bechdel test from this great, thought provoking video.

You will learn more than that. This talk might get you thinking deeper (that´s what happened with us) and from now on seeing movies somewhat differently. More than just movies.

The Importance of Open Mind Not Only for Swimming on Everest

We have not been to Himalayas yet. But, since seeing the wonders of nature has high priority on our want-to-do-list, I am pretty sure we will be there one day. Meanwhile, we are fortunate to enjoy being up in Swiss mountains. Unfortunately global warming melts their glaciers too. This picture is from our hike on the impressive glacier that is the beginning of Rhone river.

What determines how well you manage to live the life you want to live? People´s replies to this question are as different as the nature on our beautiful planet Earth. One is for sure – whatever the reply, it mirrors the person´s approach and the relationship to the world, life, oneself. In other words – it shows The MINDSET of the person. Using own mindset is the secret to making the best of own life whatever the circumstances or conditions.

Lewis Pugh illustrates this point in his talk about how he swam in the lake on Everest which is 5300 meters above the sea level. It is the height where no human, or any other living being, including fish, has ever swam. How did he do it? By questioning what kind of mindset would help him to do it. And the answer to this question was impressive.

Amazing three A for Your Abundant 2013

abundant 2013

As a Latvian-Swiss binational couple we travel several times a year between Riga and Zßrich. So if you pay attention to what is below the clouds you might probably see some Germany, some Poland or even some Lithuania. Above the clouds nevertheless it doesn´t really matter which country it is. It´s simply beautiful.

Dear Friends, Happy New Year! Let 2013 be full of wonderful discoveries – all around and inside!

We hope that this New Era (as we call it here, by us) for you is starting well, and with many good experiences, discoveries and adventures to look forward to!

As for us, we took OFF the last part of the year and the beginning of this one.

No traveling. No working. No duties. No meetings.
Just some necessary family time.
Lots of walks in the fresh air.

And lots and lots of reading, writing, reflection, digging, drafting, discussing, sharing and… inspired Daring, Questioning, Re-Imagining and Creating The New.

IT FELT ooooooh SO GOOD…

Some of it needs to be polished. Some of it: more re-imagined.
And most of it needs to be brought to life. We can´t wait to share the best of it with you! And we hope to do it sooner than we think 🙂

As for now – we want to share with you this TED talk by Neil Pasricha who reveals three A secrets that lead to truly awesome life.
Our take away – “life will not go according to your plan“. And the pearl: “Authentic means BEING YOU and BEING COOL WITH THAT“. It almost sounds like mantra 😉

You can also watch this talk on TED.

Why It Can Be So Useful to Give up Old Dreams

broken body

Autumn 2012. Statue on some historical building in Munich (Germany). We could not figure out if the net was meant as protection for the people walking beneath it – body falling apart? Or if instead it was protecting the statue from some unwanted bird dung. Anyway, do you see how the statue is trying to escape the net? (As you see – Michel has figured out a nice way to add comments on our photos, so be prepared to get a comment with each photo that he adds to the post. And well, who knows – maybe he will add the comments to some previous photos that are in already published posts…).

Cross-country skier Janine Shepherd was preparing for Olympic games, but then life changed her plans. She now shares her story about the human potential and insights about what happens when you give up your old dreams.

Formula for Happiness and Success

how positivity increases productivity

This is a very entertaining talk about how happiness inspires productivity by psychologist Shawn Achor (by the way – he has won many distinguished teaching awards at Harvard University for his lectures on positive psychology at Harvard. Probably this fact does say something about the style of his teaching that we too can enjoy while watching this video).

When we think that we have to be more successful so we can be happier, that´s when we get in trouble because our brains work in the opposite order. In fact, at first we need to take care that we feel more positive, and then we will be more successful, more productive, more creative, more intelligent and more energetic. When our brain is in positive state then we are 31% more productive than when our brain is in negative or even neutral state. Something to think about… Well, better – something to act upon.

Don´t Wait to be a Hero

Importance of Doing What Matters

Volunteer firefighter Mark Bezos tells a short (4 minutes) story about being a hero. Well, it´s not the traditional way of how we usually think of a heroic activity. And why? Because not every day is going to offer us a chance to be a hero on a great scale, but every day offers us an opportunity to make a difference in somebody´s life.
You will love his story, we are quite sure about it 🙂
