This is a powerful story of what difference it makes when we ACCEPT THE REALITY, but NOT THE LIMITATIONS. It is a living example of a REAL person LIVING BEYOND LIMITS and drawing INSPIRATION FROM OBSTACLES in her life. It is a truly inspiring story that provokes action. (The type of story that is highly appreciated here, at our place)
Dear Friends, Happy New Year! Let 2013 be full of wonderful discoveries – all around and inside!
We hope that this New Era (as we call it here, by us) for you is starting well, and with many good experiences, discoveries and adventures to look forward to!
As for us, we took OFF the last part of the year and the beginning of this one.
No traveling. No working. No duties. No meetings.
Just some necessary family time.
Lots of walks in the fresh air.
And lots and lots of reading, writing, reflection, digging, drafting, discussing, sharing and… inspired Daring, Questioning, Re-Imagining and Creating The New.
IT FELT ooooooh SO GOOD…
Some of it needs to be polished. Some of it: more re-imagined.
And most of it needs to be brought to life. We can´t wait to share the best of it with you! And we hope to do it sooner than we think 🙂
As for now – we want to share with you this TED talk by Neil Pasricha who reveals three A secrets that lead to truly awesome life.
Our take away – “life will not go according to your plan“. And the pearl: “Authentic means BEING YOU and BEING COOL WITH THAT“. It almost sounds like mantra 😉
You can also watch this talk on TED.
This is a very entertaining talk about how happiness inspires productivity by psychologist Shawn Achor (by the way – he has won many distinguished teaching awards at Harvard University for his lectures on positive psychology at Harvard. Probably this fact does say something about the style of his teaching that we too can enjoy while watching this video).
When we think that we have to be more successful so we can be happier, that´s when we get in trouble because our brains work in the opposite order. In fact, at first we need to take care that we feel more positive, and then we will be more successful, more productive, more creative, more intelligent and more energetic. When our brain is in positive state then we are 31% more productive than when our brain is in negative or even neutral state. Something to think about… Well, better – something to act upon.
The surprising truth in this short presentation is about the way how each one of us can get more productive, more inspired, more joyful life – by…. GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP. And the really nice thing about this approach is that by giving ourselves the best – for our personal life, our health, our career, we also give the best to the world.
Arianna Huffington tells about her experience when her own exhaustion lead her to rediscovering the value of sleep. She makes her points how the deprivation of sleep is guilty of terrible decision making.
“WHAT?! Buy happiness with money?! How disgusting and sick is that?! It is well known that happiness can´t be bought with money…” Are these the words that were floating in your mind when you read the title of this article? Or did you think something like: “Yeah, yeah, what else – buy happiness with money… So, where´s the catch of this weird statement?”
In this is 11 minutes long video Michael Norton shares the results of surprising research on how one can, indeed, buy happiness with money. And you don´t need to be rich to be able to buy (enough) happiness.
British philosopher Alan Watts has a wonderful talk about what we should focus on when deciding on how to spend the life. He asks: “How would you really enjoy spending your life?” His message is somewhat similar to the message of professor Larry Smith who teaches how not to waste life when deciding what life to choose.
There are nice pearls of wisdom in this short 3 minutes video with Watt´s talk – becoming a master, being an example to others, living a life that is full of meaning. His talk certainly will make you think deeper about your own life.
Thank you, Lauri, for bringing this great video to our attention!
People usually think that anger is the emotion over which they have very little control or none at all. People who are angry rather often may say that anger is part of their character and they can not do anything about it. Some people will say that anger can also be positive emotion if one uses it for good purpose. It might be true. But here we speak about more usual type of anger that brings destruction and trouble.
Roman philosopher Seneca had a serious reason to research this emotion. (You will find out his reason when you watch the video below.) He came up with the explanation about the origins of human anger. Luckily for us, he also gave valuable insights about how to avoid getting angry or at least lessen the chances to get angry or disappointed.
He also described one serious danger for our chance to be happy – advertising. He did it more than two thousand years ago… Continue reading
